Giving children access to all varieties of literature is extremely important for their success. Reading is a key life skill which is crucial to developing language skills and access to the wider curriculum. It provides children with the chance to respond and develop personal opinions encouraging deeper thoughts and their imagination.  Our aim is to develop a love and passion for reading both at home and school.  We have specially selected high quality reading books for each year group.  Some of these books can be found in the classroom and some are available for loan at Lees library. Encourage your child to read as many of these books as possible throughout the year.

YEAR 4 RECOMMENDED READING LIST

• Read your school reading book at least three times a week and talk about what you have read.
• Visit the library and choose a non-fiction book on a topic linked to our learning.
• Read some of the books on the Year 4 recommended reading list (see above).
• Create a cosy corner for you to read and relax in.
• Make predictions while you are reading. What do you think will happen next? Can you think of a different ending for this story?

• Visit TT Rockstars at least three times a week.
• Have a go at some of the maths games linked to our current maths topic – Place Value.
• Place Value, Maths Games for 7-11 Years - Topmarks
• Play Hit the Button to help with your times tables.
• Hit the Button - Quick fire maths practise for 6-11 year olds
• Practise telling the time on a digital and analogue clock in 12 and 24 hour.
• Have a go at drawing and shading fractions.
• Play maths games, such as; cards, dominoes and sudoku.

Please use Timestable Rockstars 3 times a week - this is compulsory homework.

At St Thomas’ Leesfield we value the link between home and school and we recognise parental support is vital to a child’s progress and education. Please encourage your child to complete and return any homework on time. Please discuss your child’s learning and topic work and ask about their Always Badge. Children need to practise their spellings and read daily. Your child will need his / her planner everyday so that we are able to keep in contact. Planners need to be signed every week and will be checked every Friday. Additionally, children need to be accessing TT Rockstars a minimum of three times a week, in preparation for the multiplication check which takes place in Year 4, this will be checked daily.
