Reception Chinese New Year - January 2023

During our busy day, learning all about Lunar New Year, we made a paper chain Chinese Dragon and a silhouette printing of a rabbit. We learnt about the celebration and the different traditions carried out. We also learnt that each year is named after an animal, this year being named after the rabbit.

Year 2: The Value of Service Assembly - March 2023

Well done Year 2 on an enjoyable class assembly on the value of Service. You conveyed a very important message about serving others with kindness. We thoroughly enjoyed the story of The Smartest Giant In Town.  Brilliant acting, speaking and singing! It was thoroughly entertaining!  Don’t forget to pass on that smile!

Year 5: Linking Project: Trip to Castleshaw with Mayfield School - May 2023

On Tuesday 16th May, Year 5 took part in the Linking Project with Mayfield Primary School. As part of the Linking Project, both Year 5 classes were tasked with working together in a range of activities. We had to map read, solving tricky orienteering tasks around Castleshaw, and we also had to classify different organisms in a pond using our scientific knowledge. PKD Fundraising - March 2023

The whole school have been fundraising for our chosen National Charity, PKD. Year 6 came to school in their PE kits but with a kidney related twist, such as red, green or purple accessories. They took part in a health fitness video on the Thursday morning, as the fundraising this week has been educational - touching on health and science. As well as enjoying some health and fitness activities, we also enjoyed a kidney shaped biscuit and a milkshake!

Year 6: Coronation Activities - May 2023

Year 6 thoroughly enjoyed their afternoon of activities to celebrate King Charles III's Coronation. We listened to the story of 'The Old Man of Lochnagar' which is a book that King Charles wrote; we contributed to a collage of the Union Jack and the King's Cypher; planted leek seeds as Prince Charles was the longest serving Prince of Wales and the leek is the national symbol of Wales; and finally we had a little experience of what Charles' like was like at his boarding school - facing a physical obstacle course.

Year 2: Meet Carlos - October 2023

Here is our class pet, Carlos. We have been learning about how to care, feed and keep Carlos happy in our classroom. We have looked at photos of him from when he was a baby and how he has changed. 

 

Year 3: The Linking Project Gallery Oldham - November 2023

We had a lovely trip out at Gallery Oldham with our friends from Roundthorn School as part of the Linking Project. We found out all sorts of interesting facts about the history of Oldham and we learnt that Annie Kenney, a famous suffragette, came from Springhead and worked in the cotton mill close to school!

We did some self-portraits, went on a treasure hunt and made a huge banner with the other year 3 children. It was a fantastic day and we have made lots of new friends.

Reception: People Who Help Us - November 2023

The Reception children have had a wonderful time exploring the topic 'People Who Help Us'. They had enjoyed dressing up as doctors, nurses and patients and pretending to be at hospital, as well creating their own storylines when playing with the emergency vehicles. The children have also had a visit from a midwife and the fire fighters came to show their fire engine. The children loved spraying the fire hose! 

Year 6 Robinwood: Rapids Group - February 2024

- This group had a great time conquering their fears and pushing themselves out of their comfort zones alongside Mrs Roddy and Rienk. We are all very proud of them for all that they achieved! 

Year 6 Robinwood: Waterfall Group - February 2024

Mrs Bishop thoroughly enjoyed seeing the children develop their skills over the three days and could not believe how far they challenged themselves! A group favourite activity was definitely Caving where they are enjoyed squeezing through the different tunnels and playing the games. Waterfall group also really impressed their group leader Tanya and were a credit to our school. 

Year 5: Castleshaw Linking Project - January 2024

Today Year 5 took part in the Linking Project with Roundthorn Primary School at the Castleshaw Centre. The children thoroughly enjoyed making new friends and taking part in a range of activities such as, den building and orienteering. Year 5 particularly enjoyed feeding the goats. Year 5: Roundthorn Linking Project - April 2024

On Wednesday 24th April, Year 5 went to Roundthorn Primary School to take part in the Linking Project. The children thoroughly enjoyed working with an Artist, creating junk journals, as well as playing dodgeball in PE. Finally, we particularly enjoyed Forest Schools because the children were tasked with roasting marshmallows on a fire and creating friendship bracelets using naturally sourced materials. Year 5: Democracy - May 2024

This week Year 5 completed their Individual Liberty and Democracy topic. The children discussed the Human Rights and learnt about how our country is governed, writing their own manifestos and voting for a class prime minister. Moreover, Year 5 discussed how in the past people's right to vote was hindered and not respected, linking closely to the Suffragettes and Suffragist movement. Check out some of our busy learning...

Year 6: Robinwood - January 2026

We had an amazing time at Robinwood! From escaping the perils of the piranha pool to making discoveries in the darkness of the dungeon, canoeing, raft building, zip wire, scaling the climbing wall, giant swing and archery.

Reception: Healthy Diet - February 2026

The children tried a range of new healthy fruits and vegetables as part of their PSHE topic, Healthy Me. The children showed resilience to try new foods and found some new foods that they liked!

Year 5: The Linking Project - March 2026

This week Year 5 participated in the Oldham Schools Linking project at Roundthorn Primary School and met friends, old and new, from the school. Year 5 enjoyed not only meeting friends but also lighting fires and toasting marshmallows in forest school; making friendship bracelets; playing games in PE and gifting a handmade journal book to their new friend helped by a very talented local artist. We cannot wait to see our new friends at Roundthorn when we meet in May at Castleshaw for more team building and fun activities!

Year 5: Visit to Castleshaw with Roundthorn Academy - May 2026

Year 5 enjoyed their last visit with Roundthorn Academy at Castleshaw, doing lots of new activities and making even more new friends! It has been a fabulous experience!

Year 3: Roundthorn Academy Linking Project - June 2026

St Thomas' Leesfield and Roundthorn Academy Linking Project.  We invited Roundthorn into our school for the day and took part in a range of exciting workshops. We were involved in an Interfaith Workshop with Fr. Phil Sumner and Molana Akmal where we explored similarities and differences within different faiths.  We created lanterns of hope with our linked partners and showed Roundthorn our beautiful school.

Reception: World Cup Day - June 2026

The children enjoyed celebrating the World Cup by wearing their football kits or came dressed in their favourite team's colours! They had some football shaped biscuits and cooled down with ice lollies!
