Reception had an amazing time at Imagine That! in Liverpool for their end of year trip. They explored a range of different areas including the Art Beatz, Imagination Village, Slime Factory and Science Area. All of the children went home with a fridge magnet, strawberry bath bomb, slime and everlasting snow that they had all made during the trip. They also got to watch a fantastic dry ice show with a professor who made it snow indoors!

Year 2 have been for a walk to the allotment to find minibeasts and plants that live in our garden.

Year 3 have been investigating how our muscles work! We watched a fascinating video that showed different muscles flexing then we did different exercises working in pairs to feel and see the muscles.

We went for a walk around Lees to look at local habitats and flowers. We came across local bird, insects, and evidence of predators. We have had an exciting session with VR headsets looking at animals in different counties showing their natural habitats and the eco system. The children have really enjoyed this topic.

On Monday 22nd May, Year 5 took part in a virtual reality experience for our Remember Remember topic SPACE. Year 5 loved consolidating their understanding of the universe and also learning some new cool facts about our solar system. We discovered what it is like to be inside the International Space Station, how the Mars Rover travels and looked at the inner workings of gas giants and planets alike. Year 6 have been exploring how light travels and how shadows are formed using the torches and different objects in the classroom. 

In Reception, we have been exploring the season of Autumn by looking at a variety of Autumn objects such as conkers, different coloured leaves and acorns. We went on an Autumn walk in the local area to see which other objects we could find. The Reception children loved pointing out the different coloured leaves on the trees and collecting their objects. We even spotted a pumpkin on our walk back to school! 

In science we have been looking at physical properties of materials whilst also naming and identifying a range of materials.

Year 2 have been exploring different types of materials. We had a challenge to made a sturdy house out of bricks, straw and sticks. The 'Big Bad Camel' came to try and blow our houses down!

At the start of our new space topic, to infinity and beyond, we launched into it by pretending to be astronauts from the Apollo 11 mission. We listened carefully to the launch sequence and then we watched a short clip of the space craft landing on the moon.

The children have enjoyed finding signs of the season of winter. They have been exploring the snow and talking about how it feels, creating snowflakes by folding paper and enjoying learning whilst getting wrapped up and exploring our outdoor area! 

As part of our Science topic learning all about light, we conducted a number of different experiments and investigations. These included looking at refraction and why a pencil looks like it is bent in water, why soap bubbles look different colours and the effect different temperatures have on the brightness of a glow stick. Year 6 used some great scientific language and really impressed staff with their knowledge. 

This week Year 5 have been studying how they can recover insoluble substances through filtration, sieving and magnetism. The children have then progressed their learning, looking at reversible and irreversible changes, using scientific language to describe reactions and states. The children made their own 'Lemonade' using lemon, sugar and baking soda and later on discovered what happens when you put Mentos in a carbonated drink. The Reception children have loved having the chicks come to stay in our classroom. They have been learning about the life cycle of a chick and enjoyed watching them hatch from their eggs! 

Year 2 have been finding out all about Awesome Animals! We sorted pictures into Living, Never Lived and Lived Once categories. Some of the pictures really made us think about what a living thing can do.

Year 3 have investigated the rock cycle and different types of rocks. We then demonstrated our understanding by creating chocolate rocks!

Year 3 created some fantastic shadow puppets during our Let There Be Light topic to help investigate how shadows form and why they change. 

During Science we have been working on our topic - High Voltage. We have been practising putting simple circuits together and looking at the equipment needed. Here we are trying to build our own circuit and then testing different materials to see whether they were conductors or insulators. We found that conductors are made from metal and allow the electricity to pass through and that insulators do not allow electricity to pass through them. 

During their Light topic, Year 6 have been exploring how light travels in straight lines and using this idea to explain why shadows have the same shape as the object that cast them, as well as looking at a range of phenomena that involves refraction.  

During our 'Could You Be The Next Nintendo Apprentice?' Science topic, Y6 have been making series circuits using a variety of different components, as well as having a go at drawing these circuits using their recognised symbols.

In this activity, we explored different electrical circuits using bulbs, wires, switches, batteries, and buzzers. We investigated how a circuit works by building simple circuits and making sure the electricity could flow all the way around. We then experimented with adding more bulbs and batteries to see what changed, such as how bright the bulbs were or how loud the buzzer sounded. This helped us understand that a circuit needs to be complete for electricity to work and that changing parts of the circuit can affect how it behaves.

This week, Year 5 have started their 'Circle of Life' topic and paid a visit to Reception to see the eggs and hatchlings as part of our life cycles learning! We also enjoyed a trip down memory lane in the annex with past teachers!

The Year One children had a wonderful time planting their very own seeds! They carefully filled their pots with soil, planted their seeds, and gave them a good drink of water. The children were very excited and loved watching their plants grow!

Year 3 have dissected flowers to name the parts and look at fertilisation. Then, we are going to plant them around our school.
