Positive Behaviour Management
At St Thomas’ Leesfield, we have an ‘Always System’ to effectively manage behaviour throughout school, from Reception to Year 6. The always system acknowledges and rewards the well-behaved children; the children who try hard and follow the ‘Always Expectations’. We aspire for everyone at our school to meet these expectations, being READY, RESPECTFUL and SAFE, at all times. We always promote the good choices our children make and those who follow the ‘Always Expectations’ wear a badge, as recognition for their high standards.
We have four Houses and colours for badges, which are all named after ex-Headteachers. These are: Jones (red), Daniels (yellow), Bevan (blue) and Ireland (green). Staff notice ‘Always’ children and it is the children wearing their ‘Always Badge’ who are chosen for treats/privileges around school. Year 6 have prefect badges for which the same ‘Always’ system applies. Their prefect roles help to develop their sense of responsibility and they are valued for their efforts.
There may be occasions when children do meet the ‘Always Expectations’ and as a result they must return their badge to the Headteacher. Consequence and reparation are an important part of our policy and helps children to learn from their mistakes, build their self-esteem and regulate their choices, so that they can be the best version of themselves. Once the restorative process is complete and the children are once again ready, respectful and safe, they are rewarding by receiving their ‘Always Badge’ once again.
Parents have commented on how much they appreciate this ‘Always’ system and our collective high expectations. It is important that children with a good attitude towards their learning and school life are noticed and rewarded. It is our way of saying 'thank you' for always doing the right thing, making positive choices and always following the school expectations.
