Children's Targets

All children have personal targets in the form of our Leesfield Life Skills. At St Thomas’ Leesfield, we aim to develop the whole child, embedding technical and transferable elements of the hidden curriculum alongside the age-related BB targets. Leesfield Life Skills are our way of supporting and ensuring that our children grow into well-rounded, confident young people who can succeed as individuals and contribute to our community. Please discuss these life skills with your child(ren) and help them to achieve them before they transition to the next year group.

Drop-ins for Parents

Once in the Autumn term and once in the Spring term.  We will be offering a ‘Drop in classroom’ afternnoon/early evening, so that you can see your children’s classroom and have a look at his/her learning.

Progress Evenings

We have Progress Afternoons/Evenings twice a year when you will be able to come in and talk privately to your child’s teacher about your child’s progress as well as look at your child’s work. At the end of the school year, in July, you will receive a written report and we also offer a drop-in session where all staff are available to listen to any worries/concerns. However, if you have any worries about your child’s progress at any time you should contact your child’s teacher to discuss concerns or contact the school office to make an appointment with our headteacher Mr Whittaker.

Home Learning

At St Thomas’ we value the link between home and school and we recognise parental support is vital to a child’s progress and education. This year, we have developed how our children will complete home learning tasks, using evidence informed guidance from the Education Endowment Fund. Below are a range of age-appropriate ways that you can help support your child’s learning from home, complimenting their classroom work and ensuring accelerated progress. Please encourage your child to engage in these tasks, little and often, and let us know how they have done by writing in your child’s planner. Parental support for homework can promote the self-regulation in children necessary to achieve academic goals including goal-setting, planning, perseverance, and the management of time, materials, attentiveness, and emotions. There are learning opportunities all around us so let us embrace them and develop confident, well-rounded young people, who can flourish in the modern world.

Collective Celebration and Worship

Every Friday afternoon at 2.30pm we hold our Collective Celebration and Worship in the school hall (approximately 30 minutes). Parents are welcome to come along whilst joining us for refreshments. We very much look forward to seeing you.

School Planner

The children in Reception and year 1 have a School Planner. These are a very valuable communication between home and school which parents are encouraged to use. It is also for school and parents to record when they have heard their children read. Additional notes to praise the way that their child has read or to note difficulties experienced. Teachers will regularly check the books for messages but also to see that children are reading at home in addition to the reading that they do at school.
